For the second year in a row, Boler Mountain has moved to a reservation-only model, with three groups of visitors to the hills scheduled throughout the day in an effort to keep people safe and keep traffic flowing. circulation.

“The new restrictions force us to close the chalet for food, so we just wanted to control the flow of people,” said Marty Thody, director of Boler Mountian, adding that they were “crowded” last weekend.

“We wanted to control (the traffic). We think we can probably lighten up the reservation system as we move forward here, but just for now we want to make sure we’re doing the right thing, ”he said.

Beginning Tuesday, visitors will be limited to a three-hour-per-day time slot, with around three groups of visitors scheduled throughout the day. Visitors with scheduled lessons will not have to reserve their time slot.

Like last season, visitors must purchase their tickets online or using Boler’s mobile app before arriving at the site.

The move comes a day after the Ontario government announced new restrictions and capacity limits across the province to curb the spread of the highly transmissible variant of Omicron. As of Wednesday, indoor gatherings are limited to five and outdoors to 10, social distancing is required in outdoor spaces, and sports and fitness facilities are closed

The voluntary changes at Boler mean there will be around 1,000 people – almost 75% of the capacity – on the hill at a time.

Although not mandatory, officials at Boler hope the new measures will ensure the hills can remain open throughout the season.

“There is definitely pent-up demand right now and certainly a lot of new people because other things are closed,” said Greg Strauss, who is part of the management team.

“It’s just too bad we don’t have unlimited capacity. We’re just trying to be proactive and make sure people aren’t turned away when they get here.
