City of Halton Hills hosts event honoring longtime mayor

The City of Halton Hills will host an event next month to honor longtime Mayor Rick Bonnette.

The event, which will bid farewell to the city’s mayor of nearly two decades, will take place on October 5 at the Club of North Halton in Georgetown.

On December 14, 2021, Mayor Bonnette announced that he would not be running again during his state of the city Chamber of Commerce address.

Bonnette, a lifelong resident of Halton Hills, has served the community as mayor since 2003.

He was first elected to Council at the age of 27 and in 2013 and was honored by the City for his 30 years with the municipality.

“I am truly grateful to have the opportunity to be your mayor in my 19th year. In case you haven’t heard, I announced on December 14 that I will not be running again,” Bonnette said. in January.

“I will be on the Council for 40 years this fall. Before being elected mayor in 2003, I had been a regional and local councilor since 1982.

Over the years, Bonnette has championed his “green” initiatives and led an advisory team whose priorities include sustainability, fiscal prudence and communications.

Tickets for the next event are on sale now for $100 and seats must be reserved by September 27.
