Date, time, location and other important details

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL committee have started their preparations for the IPL 2023 auction, the date and venue of which have been confirmed by sources familiar with the developments.

IPL 2023, which will be the 16th edition of the competition, is set to kick off in the last week of March, with the tournament returning to home and away format for the first time since 2019.

“The next season of the Men’s IPL will also return to the home-and-away format with all 10 teams playing their home games at designated venues,” he added. BCCI Chairman Sourav Ganguly said earlier.

This time it will be a mini-auction. The latest was a mega-auction ahead of IPL 2022, which saw the addition of two new teams, one of which, Gujarat Titans, took home the trophy.

Here’s everything we’ve learned so far about the IPL 2023 mini-auction:

What is the date and location of the IPL 2023 auction?

The IPL 2023 mini-auction will take place in Bangalore with a tentative date of December 16. But a final decision on the date will be taken by the new IPL board meeting after the October 16 AGM.

What is the scholarship allocated to all franchises?

In addition to the remaining money from the previous mega-auction, each franchise will have an additional INR 5 crore to spend, bringing the overall auction purse to INR 95 crore for each team.

The Punjab Kings had the biggest remaining purse, INR 3.45 crore after the last mega-auction. Chennai Super Kings still had INR 2.95 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore INR 1.55 crore, Rajasthan Royals INR 0.95 crore and Kolkata Knight Riders still had INR 0.45 crore. Defending champions Gujarat Titans were left with INR 0.15 crore while three teams – Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals – had INR 0.10 crore, and Lucknow Super Giants had exhausted their entire purse.

How many players can a franchise retain?

As this is a mini-auction, there is no limit to the number of players a franchise can retain (team of 25 with a maximum of 8 overseas as usual). Franchises may retain all of their players from last season, but are likely to release a few to create purse and space to add new players during the mini-auction.

The IPL board has asked the ten franchises to submit their list of retained and released players by November 15.

“It will be a short bid, because we had the big one last season. The last auction was the biggest and the next three will be mini-auctions because the teams want to grow the teams,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

When will the trading window be closed?

The trading window is open and will close 7 days before the mini-auction.

Can franchises keep substitute players?

Last season, six franchises recruited replacements. According to the rules, franchises will have to decide whether to keep the replacement player or the original player, or both provided the maximum player limit rule is met.
