Sports roundup: Carthage beat Kilgore for first-ever time in women’s football | Sports

The Carthage women’s soccer team picked up their first-ever win over Kilgore with a 4-2 win in a District 15-4A game on Tuesday night at Bulldog Stadium.

Junior Julia Doval scored from 30 yards out to put Carthage ahead 1-0 and just 10 minutes later Kensi Travis netted an assist from Cynthia Lopez.

Carthage led Kilgore 3-1 before halftime.

Lopez and Doval would each score once more in the second half, with Doval returning from an assist from Kipton Travis.

Destiny Allison made 21 saves in the cage for Carthage.

With the win, Carthage improved their overall record to 6-7-1 in aggregate and 2-2 in district play.

Carthage will visit Spring Hill on Friday, February 18 at 5 p.m.

Basketball Girls of Carthage

The Carthage Lady Bulldogs basketball team secured the No. 3 seed in the 17-4A district with a 52-31 win over Hudson on Thursday night in Nacogdoches.

Junior Ja’Kyra Roberts went for a season-high 29 points, including five rebounds, a pair of assists and a pair of steals to lead the way.

Kaylen Igbokwe scored 10 with seven rebounds, and Jada Walton scored seven with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Carthage led Hudson 26-15 before halftime.

Carthage (9-17) will face Madisonville (22-10) Monday at 7 p.m. at Huntington High in an Opening Round 4A playoff game.

Courtlyn Loudermill scored a team-high 14 points, but the Panola College women’s basketball team lost to Angelina College 61-55 in a Region XIV Conference game on Wednesday at Carthage.

Jayla Brooks scored 10 points with three assists and Lauren Davenport scored eight points for the Fillies.

Panola led Angelina 32-24 at halftime.

Panola led Trinity Valley – the nation’s No. 7-ranked team – by two points after three quarters, but host Lady Cardinals righted the ship and stopped the thwarted bid from the No. 20-ranked fillies with a 69 win. -62 Monday in Athens.

Panola scored four in double digits led by Davenport’s 15 points, Brooks scored 14, Loudermill 12 and Nissa Sam-Grant had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Panola (17-6 overall, 8-5 Region XIV) will visit Bossier Parish on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Sophomore Isaac Jackson scored a personal best 33 points, but the Panola College men’s basketball team fell to host Bossier Parish 82-78 in an Area Conference XIV game Wednesday.

Bennie Amos III scored 13 points, including four 3-pointers, Olaverr Camacho scored eight with 13 rebounds, Rodney Johnson Jr. scored six with five rebounds and Jacobi Lewis had eight assists for the Ponies.

Panola led Bossier Parish 35-30 before halftime.

Panola (19-7 overall, 10-5 Region XIV) will visit Trinity Valley on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The Ponies sit in third place in the conference.

Carthage boys football team dropped their 15-4A district game to visit Kilgore with a 4-0 loss on Tuesday.

Carthage will be looking to pick up their first district win of the season next Friday when they visit Spring Hill on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.
