“Wike has sworn to collapse the system if his presidential ambition fails…His friendship has only hurt me”

A former lawmaker, Senator Lee Maeba, has accused Governor Nyesom Wike of threatening to collapse the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) if he fails to secure the party’s presidential ticket to run in 2023.

Speaking in an interview with an online TV channel, he questioned why Wike refused to move on like former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili when he failed in his attempt to become president in 2007.

Recall that Odili had participated in the presidential primaries of the PDP in 2006 but had been defeated by the governor of Katsina State, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who had won the presidency.

Maeb said: “Wike told me on one of our campaigns that if he failed the primary, he would collapse the whole system if they did to him what they did to (the former Governor of Rivers State, Peter) Odili. He said he was going to collapse the system and everyone would go home. It’s fear here. »

Speaking in another interview with The PUNCH, the former lawmaker said his relationship with Governor Wike has only caused him pain.

According to him, Rivers State benefited from the presidential candidate of the PDP Atiku Abubakar due to his closeness and a former Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara with the former Vice President.

He said his relationship with Atiku brought Intels, a logistics company owned by the PDP presidential candidate, to the state.

He said, “It (relationship with Atiku) brought Intels. Atiku created Intels which employed many people. It is thanks to us that he (Atiku) invested more in Intels Rivers.

“Does friendship have to bring something? What did his (Wike’s) friendship bring me? His friendship for me has only caused me pain; his friendship for me caused me more pain.
